Marisa Lyn Henry

I am currently a PhD student at Johns Hopkins University, where I will be pursing research under Dr. Paul Ferraro. My interests extend well beyond the traditionally defined environmental engineering discipline to systems design, economics, and broader social science disciplines. My focus is on using insights from behavioral sciences (particularly economics) to inform the design of more sustainable, model-based strategies for resource systems.

I am also a 2016-2017 Gates Cambridge Scholar Alumnus and graduate from Purdue University, where I earned a B.S. in environmental and ecological engineering and minor in economics.

I have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town. Having been introduced to the idea of sustainable development I moved to the UK to complete an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University.

I have stayed on in the UK and am currently an analyst working on the consultancy team at Delta Energy & Environment. My focus is low carbon heat and electric vehicles. I am passionate about contributing towards the transition to a zero-carbon future.

I dislike and suck at writing about myself but outside of work I enjoy spending time with mates, playing and watching sport, travelling when I have the opportunity and exploring the outdoors.

Shortly after completing the ESD graduate program in Cambridge, I started a 2 month internship with a Data & Analytics Consultancy in Valencia and later on I joined the Ideas & Strategy team of La Marina de Valencia, a public institution responsible for managing the old harbor of the city. Now I work on developing small-scale projects which improve the accessibility and sustainability of the public spaces in La Marina.

I hold a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College, NY and I have a combined minor in political and environmental science. My interests are constantly evolving, but for the moment I want to keep developing my amateurish website http://www.imxprs.com/free/dimz/newartwork, learn how to prepare a paella, and grow out of my 9GAG addiction.

After completing the MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development, I moved to Dubai where I work as a Sustainability Consultant. My role involves sustainability strategy in the built environment, green building certifications and energy management.

I am originally from Aberdeen, Scotland and have a masters in chemical engineering. Prior to Cambridge, I worked as a Commissioning Engineer for an oil and gas company and it was during this time I decided to transition into sustainability. My interests lie in sustainable materials, the circular economy and technology.
